Here's A Story For Your Bus This Sunday!
“THE BIRTHDAY WISH”
Boys and Girls, our story today is a True Story about a
King who lived long, long ago. This king was very rich
and was very selfish…whatever he saw that he wanted and
had to have, he took it, including another man’s wife.
This king was so selfish and was so wicked, that when he
saw the beauty of his own brother’s wife, he said within
himself, “I must have her as MY wife!”, and he took his
own brother’s wife for his own wife, just because he was
the king and thought he could do it! And the woman, who
should have been faithful to her own husband must have
said within her heart, “Oh what excitement to think that
the king wants me to be his wife…why I’ll be rich, and
my daughter will grow up to be famous, and she can be
able to have anything she ever wants if I will marry the
king!” So she left her husband and the king married
her…oh, how cruel to do something like that…for a king
to love another man’s wife…and that woman to leave her
husband, just to be rich…and that little girl to leave
her daddy, just so she could have whatever she
wanted…Could no one stop them from doing such evil
things?? Well, there was a preacher who loved the Lord
God, whose name was John…we know him in the Bible as
John the Baptist. This preacher, who loved God, told the
king that he was doing wrong by taking his brother’s
wife, but when the king’s new wife heard this, she was
mad and so as to keep her happy, the king put John in
prison. One night, this king had a Big Birthday Party
and all the nobles came. And they began to do wicked
things at this party like drink and to have dancing. And
the king’s new wife’s daughter began to dance before the
king and his wicked friends…and as she danced before
them, that king was so wicked that he lusted after his
new wife’s daughter and told her, “Because your dancing
has so pleased me and my friends, you may have anything
you want, up to half of my kingdom!” Well the girl was
very excited to be able to have anything she wanted, so
she asked her wicked mother, “What should I ask for?”
And her mother said, “Ask for that Preacher’s head on a
platter!” What a wicked thing to do, but she did it! And
because the king had already promised to give her
whatever she asked for, he could not refuse her request
even though he knew it was wrong to kill the man of God.
So on the King’s birthday, the man of God was beheaded
and his head was brought to the king and he gave it to
this girl and she gave it to her mother…Boys and girls,
be careful what you wish for on your birthday. It would
be better to know Jesus and to live for him and to even
lose your head for doing what is right, than to want
everything you see and wish to have it! Why not trust
Jesus as your own Saviour and decide to live for Him
today?? You’ll be glad you did! |
