I Kings 14:22-24 When God's people turn away from serving and worshiping Him correctly God's righteous jealousy will chasten and do whatever it takes to get His people back to the right path.

II Corinthians 11:1-3 Paul showed a godly jealousy toward the church at Corinth because of the work he had put into the church for Christ and had a strong desire to keep them from going astray.

(a backslider), and are not able to digest the deeper things of God's word.

Galatians 5:19-21 Envy is listed by Paul in the works of the flesh and tells everyone that this person is living in the world and not living up to their status as a Christian should. Also in this verse, it is clear that those Christians that live their lives in this condition will not inherit any part in the kingdom.

Galatians 24-26 Again, Paul reiterates that as Christians we are to walk in the Spirit and not in the flesh having worldly desires and being envious of others.

EFFECTS OF ENVY

Acts 13:45; 17:5 Envy can cause many divisions and discord among communities and churches alike. People can get into an uproar because of envy.

Genesis 4:4-8 The effects of envy are highlighted in the sad story of these two brothers. Envy here caused anger and eventually murder that set Cain on a life long journey of sadness and regret.

Genesis 37:4-5, 11 The envy that Joseph's brothers had for him led to hatred, ill-speaking, lying, conspiracy, kidnapping and a murderous desire in the brothers to actually kill their own brother.

SUBJECTS OF ENVY

Matthew 20:1-16 One of the most popular things that one person has that someone else might be envious of  is of course money.

I Samuel 18:7-9 Here we see that because of the popularity of David the king became very envious.

RESPONSE TO ENVY

Psalm 73:3-17, 22 In order to not get caught up with the sin of envy we must seek God's wisdom.

I Corinthians 3:3; Galatians 5:19-21, 24 Recognize the attitude of envy for what it actually is.

Galatians 5:25-26 Be mindful that as Christians we are commanded to “walk in the Spirit” not in the flesh. The moment we feel a slight bit of envy we must turn to the Lord for His help and He will help.
