THE MARKS OF THE LORD JESUS
November 22, 2009
Galatians 6:17; II Corinthians 11:24-29 The sacrifices and the sufferings of Paul the Apostle.
Today, in America, we have yet to be asked by God to lead the kind of life Paul led, and certainly we have not been tested as Paul was for the cause of Christ. The marks of Christ that Paul had to bare are not the same marks that God wants us to bare for the time being. However, we are to have certain Marks of Christ that will magnify Jesus to those who observe our walk.
THE MARK OF LOVE
John 3:16; Romans 5:8 Christ is the very essence of what love is. He taught about love and
He lived out His earthly life in a on-going demonstration of the love of God.
John 15:12 The standard by which we are to live our lives together is the kind of love that Christ has demonstrated before us all and it is recorded in His Word for us to emulate.
John 13:35; Romans 12:9 He stated that it would be by the way Christians loved one another that the world would know that we belong to Him.
I John 3:14, 16, 18 We must have the best interest of one another as a guiding principle.
Luke 6:31-36 Wouldn’t it be wonderful if each one of us lived every day by the Golden Rule that Jesus taught? Real Bible love demands that we live daily with the Mark of Love.
THE MARK OF HUMILITY
Philippians 2:8 In every phase of His earthly ministry Jesus took time not only to teach His followers about humility, but He also showed by example the importance of being humble.
John 13:4-17 How could we forget the great teaching in the upper room. The King of glory went to His knees and washed dirty feet as an example of humility to His disciples.
Romans 12:3 We are reminded by Paul not to be prideful but to think before we act.
I Peter 5:5 Peter tells us that we should submit to one another and be humble if we expect God to bless us with His wonderful grace.
Luke 22:26 Jesus taught us to have a servants attitude and walk with The Mark of Humility.
THE MARK OF FORGIVENESS
Luke 23:34 Even as He hung on the cross, Jesus had compassion and forgiveness.
Matthew 5:44-45 Jesus teaching is contrary to what we are taught today. He taught love and forgiveness even to our worst enemies.
Matthew 18:21-22 This verse of scripture is unbelievable but it is Bible truth. How our lives and those around us would be changed if only Christians practiced The Mark of Forgiveness.
THE MARK OF OBEDIENCE
Hebrews 5:8-9 Jesus showed by example that obedience to the Father is very important.
I Samuel 15:22 The Bible makes it very clear in the Old and New Testament about obedience.
Matthew 12:50 Obedience is one way to know for sure we are members of God’s family.
John 14:23 To secure fellowship with God the Father we must have The Mark of Obedience..
THE MARK OF COMPASSION
John 4:4 Jesus had a concern and compassion for the lost souls of the world.
I Corinthians 9:19-22 Paul had a genuine compassion and love for his lost brethren the Jews.
Luke 10:30-37 Perhaps no story could illustrate the care and concern that God desires us to have toward the weak, the suffering and the lost person more than this immortal story told by Jesus Himself. Jesus ended the story by telling us to live with The Mark of Compassion.
