What is the church? Where did it come from? Who belongs to the church? What is the priority of the church? What will happen to the church? All these are questions that continue to be subject of books, movies and commentaries. In this lesson we will answer (from the Bible) some of these questions pertaining to the church.
The reason why we must have the answers to these questions is not only that we might bring the truth to those who are yet in darkness, but because of the importance that God puts on the church; Ephesians 5:25 Jesus died for the church.
The two Greek words for church are (1) ekklesia which means ( an assembly, or congregation),
and (2) kuliake which means (belonging to the Lord).
Matthew 16:13-18 Certainly one of the most profound question and answer period Jesus had while with His disciples. He made it clear the it would be Himself that would build His church.
Luke 24:33-49; Acts 1:6-8 The great commission was given to the church along with the promise of empowering the church. Then the Holy Spirit came on the day of Pentecost.
Matthew 13:45-46 The “pearl of great price” is a most valued possession to our Lord.
A FUTURE BRIDE
Romans 7:4 Paul tells us that we should be spiritually fruitful and get ready to be married.
II Corinthians 11:2 Paul’s ministry was to get the church ready for the marriage to Christ.
Revelation 19:7 Here John sees the future bride of Christ prepared for the wedding.
Revelation 21:2; John 14:1-3 Here we see the place that Jesus has prepared for His Bride.
Ephesians 5:30; Genesis 2:21-24 God has not changed His mind regarding the marriage relationship from the first marriage to the Great Marriage between the Lamb and His bride.
John 1:12; Romans 8:15 The scriptures make it clear how to join the family.
Galatians 4:5-6; Ephesians 2:19 We not only belong to His household, but only those that are sons and daughters can call Him Father.
Galatians 3:29; 4:7 The bible tells us that we will share an inheritance with Christ the Lord.
Hebrews 1:13-14 Because of our position in Christ, we all have had protection by heavenly angels throughout our whole lifetime.
Colossians 1:12 Here we see that it was God that made us (suitable, appropriate, qualified) to partake of the inheritance that He has for us in heaven.
Romans 8:33; I Peter 1:2 We the church are often referred to as “the elect”.
I Peter 2:10 In this verse Peter calls us “the people of God”.
Matthew 12:46-50; I Corinthians 9:5 We are called “brethren”.
Romans 8:28 Here we are identified as “the called”.
I Peter 2:9 In this wonderful verse of scripture, Peter really goes wild and calls us all sorts of names; “ a chosen generation”, “ a royal priesthood”, “ a holy nation”, and “ a peculiar people”.
Romans 9:22; 11:5 One name that is often given to the church is “the remnant”, WRONG!!
The saved people of Israel are the “remnant”. Only Israel throughout the bible is referred to as “the remnant”, both in the Old Testament and the New Testament.
