(Revelation 21:9)
June 14, 2009

Hebrews 11:7-13 Just as Abraham and all the other heroes of the faith searched and worked out their faith in God Almighty, we today, must act out our faith in Him and continue to “look for the city, whose builder and maker is God.”

Revelation 21:1 Here John sees a new heaven and a new earth. Between Revelation 21-22 the old heaven and earth are destroyed.

   A. Matthew 24:35; II Peter 3:10-11 Comparing scripture gives us the facts of the destruction.

   B. Isaiah 48:10; Malachi 3:2-3 Just as God put His beloved Israel through “the refiners fire”, He will put His polluted creation through the flames of His refinery in order to purge it as new.

Revelation 4:2, 3; 5:1-7 God the Father will be there.

Revelation 5:6 Jesus Christ, God the Son will be there.

Revelation 14:13; 22:17 God the Holy Spirit will be there.

Hebrew 12:22; Revelation 5:11 God’s holy and elect angels will be there.

Hebrews 11:16; Revelation 14:1-3 Saved Israel will be there.

Hebrews 12:22, 23; Revelation 19:1, 7, 8 The Church, the Bride of Christ will be there.

(Revelation 21:2; John 14:1-3)

Revelation 21:24, 26 The city is pictured as a stationery city floating above the earth in space.

Revelation 21:16 The size of the city measures  approximately 1,500 miles square.

Revelation 21:12, 17, 18 The walls of the city are 216 feet high and made of jasper.

Revelation 21:12, 13, 21, 25 There are 12 gates of the city, 3 gates on each side. Each gate is named for a tribe of Israel. Each gate is guarded by an angel. The important feature of the gates is that they are each made of a solid white pearl. This is the jewel that sets forth the Church of Christ (Matthew 13:45, 46).

The pearl is different from all other precious stones in that it is not mined from the earth but forms in the sea from a living organism (oyster). A small particle of sand works its way into the side of the living organism and creates such an irritation that the organism sends out a covering over and over again until the beautiful pearl is formed.  The gates of pearl are there to remind us for all eternity that we had no beauty in ourselves, but the beauty that is seen is the beauty that God through Christ put around us. The value of anything is determined by the price someone is willing to pay. God through Christ paid the ultimate price for His “Pearl of great price”.

Revelation 22:1-2 Here we see a “river of water of life” and we also see the return of “the tree of life” which disappeared after Adam sinned but reappears in the new Jerusalem.

   Hebrews 2:9, 12; Revelation 5:9; 14:3; 15:3 Heaven will be a place of singing.

Revelation 22:3; II Timothy 2:12; I Corinthians 6:2-3 Heaven will be a place of service. Where and how will we serve? There is lots of speculation in the scriptures ie. Revelation 21:1, 24-27; 22:1-2.

Revelation 22:17 Christ gives His final invitation to those who so far have refused His love.

Revelation 22:18, 19 Christ gives His final warning to those that hear the lessons and teach on this great book of prophecy.
