GOD'S WILL FOR US
July 25, 2010
It is obvious that most of us Christians struggle to find what God's will for our lives really is. The
bible makes it pretty clear that God wants us to know and follow His will for us but for some
reason we find it difficult to follow the plan He sets forth in His Word to find the answer.
GOD WANTS US TO KNOW
Proverbs 3:6 God tells us that one of the first things we must do to know His will is to put Him
first in all our ways then He will direct us.
Romans 12:1-2 Paul emphasised the same message as Solomon when he told us that we
should present ourselves a living sacrifice to God. God then will show us His will for our lives.
Psalms 37:23 David writes that a good mans steps are ordered (arranged, planned) by the
Lord Himself. The question we have to ask ourselves is this, are we following those steps?
Psalms 139:15-16 David provides the evidence that God has a perfect will for all of us. There
was no mistake when you and I were born. God had everything written down way before our birth.
SEEKING GOD'S WILL
1. Prayer
Jeremiah 29:12-13 The emphasis in this verse is "with all your heart". As long as we can live
without God's perfect will for our lives Satan will make sure we don't find it and fulfill it.
Luke 11:9-10 We must make it a priority to find His will by seeking Him in fervent prayer. His
promise is to hear us and answer us when we seek Him with all of our heart.
Galatians 1:15 We must not assume that God will use our natural talents for His perfect will.
Paul was not called to use the talents that he had before salvation. God called Paul to preach
Christ after Paul was weakened, broken and half blind. Paul surrendered to God's will Acts 9:6.
2. God's Word
Psalms 119:105, 130 God promises that His Word will show us the right way. We must allow
His Word to fulfill the promise and to illuminate us to find His perfect will for us.
II Timothy 3:16 God promises us that we can gain His instructions through His Word.
Hebrews 4:12 By searching the scriptures our true motives will be revealed to us so that we
might make the necessary corrections to continue down the right path to His perfect will.
Psalms 143:10 David knew that if he would find God's will for his own life he needed to pray
and constantly ask God to teach him and lead him into God's will.
3. Providence
I Corinthians 16:9; II Corinthians 2:12 Once we are in much prayer and are studying and
reading God's Word, He will often times begin to open doors for us and allow us to take small
steps in the direction that ultimately will lead to His perfect will.
Matthew 4:19 When Jesus began His ministry in Israel, He called His disciples to follow Him.
He did not tell them that they all would suffer much persecution and ultimately die for Him. He
led them and taught them one step at a time until they fulfilled the will of God in their lives.
4. The Holy Spirit
John 16:13 As we pray and study God promises to validate His Word through the One who
gave the Word to us, His Holy Spirit. He will teach us and will also guide us into all understanding.
Acts 10:19-20 By listening to God's Word and being in much prayer we can be led by the Spirit
of God into ministry and service.
I John 4:6 Because we have the Holy Spirit living in us, by being close to God in prayer and
Bible study, we will be able to discern the spirit of good from the spirit of error there-by staying
on the right tract in finding God's will for our lives.
