I.
God based His promises on a
covenant between Himself and the people.
A.
A covenant is a conditional
promise between two parties:
1. In this case, people are obligated to keep God’s commandments in order to inherit the Promised Land (9).
-
They will be established as
the people of God (13).
-
They will be established as
the children of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob (13).
2. God obligates Himself to bless the people, or to curse them, in accordance with their obedience
to His commandments (25).
B.

II. An explanation of the 40 year wandering is given in verse 4:
A. They were unable to perceive (instinctively understand).
B. They were unable to see what they were seeing.
C. They were unable to hear what they heard.
III. In verses 5-6, we have a practical example of Philippians 4:19.
“But my God shall supply all your need according to his riches in glory by Christ Jesus.”
A. Children of God can see their needs met as they look back on the promises of God (5).

- Knowing God more deeply is the closest that we can come to touching God, or seeing God, or hearing God’s voice.
IV.
If the Children of
A. Future generations will see God’s hand upon His children (22).
B. Other nations will see God’s hand upon His children (24-25).
C. God will do what He says He will do in His Word (27-28).
- In a sense, we could say that God lives according to the Bible.
V. God has reserved certain secrets for Himself, and has chosen to reveal other secrets to us (29).
A. You may claim what you know, and trust God for what you do not know.
1. Some things belong only to God and were not meant for us.
2. Some things belong to us and God has given them to us.
3. Some things belong to us but are still reserved until the time of God’s choosing
- see I Peter 1:4
B. Our children will be effected by how we handle the revealed truths of God’s Word (29).
CONCLUSION: PLEASE READ DEUTERONOMY 30 FOR NEXT SUNDAY.
