DEUTERONOMY 28:35-68

BLESSINGS AND  CURSES, PART 2

 

 

 

 

I.     If the Children of Israel will not be an example of holiness, God will make them an example of punishment   (35-37).

 

A.         Go will give them problems never seen before  (36).

 

1.         A nation not known by the past generations will rise up against you  (36).

2.         False gods of wood and stone will become your gods.

 

B.         Notice three descriptions of God’s children in verse 37:

 

1.         Astonishment – people will look  in shock.

2.         Proverb – an example of what NOT to be and do.

3.         By-word – a common knowledge example

 

II.                Regardless of how hard they try, God will not allow them to prosper.

 

A.         Your work in the field will be for nothing  (38).

 

B.         Your work in the vineyards will be for nothing  (39).

 

C.         Your work among the fruit trees will be for nothing  (40).

 

D.         You will lose your children  (41).

 

E.          Strangers will be lifted up above you  (43-44).

 

III.     Why will God deal so harshly with His children?   (45-47)

 

A.         They would not listen to the voice of God.

 

B.         The would not keep the commandments of God.

 

C.         They lost their joy in serving God.   (47).

 

IV.      A list of terrible details is given in the remainder of the chapter:

 

A.         They will become slaves and serve in hunger, thirst, and nakedness.   (48).

 

B.         A terrible nation will defeat you.   (49-52)

 

1.         The language will be foreign  (49).

2.         He will be merciless  (50).

3.         He will eat up your food  (51).

 

 

 

 

 

          4.     He will destroy your cities   (52).

 

C.         “Civilized” men and women will turn on their own families.

 

1.         Their children will die by their own hands.  (53 and 55).

2.         Fathers and husbands will act  unnaturally   (54).

3.         Mothers and wives will act unnaturally   (56-57).

 

     D.     Diseases will be numerous   (60-62).

 

V.         God is thorough in whatever He sets out to do – in blessing and curses.

 

A.     God will thoroughly scatter them   (63-65).

 

B.     Fear and doubt will fill their hearts   (65-68).

 

 

 

 

Conclusion – If you don’t fear God BEFORE He deals with you, you’ll fear God after He deals with you   (58).
