SEPTEMBER 26TH,
2004
I.
The commandments of God were
to be in public view and “very plainly” written (1-8).
A.
Notice that “on the day” (2)
that the Children of
1.
They need to be seen because
they are commanded to keep them (1).
2.
The stones were to be large
in order to be seen by everyone from a long distance (2).
3.
Their new prosperity must not DISTRACT them
away from the Word of God (3).
B.
Notice what accompanied
these great stones of the Law (4-7):
1.
An altar of stones was to be
erected near the great stones of God’s Law (5).
-
The materials of worship are
identical to the materials of God’s Word.
-
Iron tools, representing the
work of man, were not to be used.
1.
Burnt offerings and Peace offerings, imply that our sacrifices are to be Biblical
(6-7).
2.
They were to eat there, and
rejoice in the Lord (7).
A.
The words on the stones were
to be engraved plainly, for all to see (8).
1.
The Word of God needs to be
made plain for everyone to understand.
2.
A return to the plain,
practical teaching of the Word of God is needed today.
II. The twelve tribes divided into two
divisions and told to stand on two mountains facing each other (9-13).
A.
The first six tribes were to
acknowledge the blessings of God, and the second six were to acknowledge the
curses of God.
1.
The Levites were to declare
the curses of disobedience (14).
2.
This was to be a word
picture for the people to “plainly” understand God’s expectations.
B.
All of the people were to
say “Amen” to the curses of God (15-26).
1.
There must be public
agreement that God’s Law must be obeyed.
2.
There is a link between
plainly understanding God’s expectations and publicly saying “Amen” to them.
C.
God’s people must understand
that disobeying God’s Word brings a curse upon their lives.
-
Notice the last curse: A
failure to personally determine that you will follow God’s Word is a curse
(26).
PLEASE READ DEUTERONOMY
28 IN PREPARATION FOR NEXT SUNDAY.
