DEUTERONOMY 11

REQUIREMENTS OF GODLY BLESSINGS

Introduction:   A constant reminder to the children of Israel is found in verse 1: Love God and keep His commandments. This is the basis of our Christian life and Christian service.

I.                   In verses 2-7, Moses reminds the new generation of the past.

A.         There were miracles in Egypt.  (3)

B.         There were miracles in the wilderness.   (5)

C.         The young eyes of the new generation saw God perform miracles in strange places.   (7)

II.                The Promised Land is different from the land of Egypt.   (10)

A.         Egypt was a flat land (10)

B.         The Promised Land is a land of hills and valleys.   (11)

C.         The Promised Land is a land that God cares for.   (12)

III.             God promised to bless them IF they remained true to Him.   (13-14)

A.         Loving and serving God brings rewards from God.

B.         Remaining true to God requires a dedication to God.

1.         Watch out for deception.   (16)

2.         Place God’s Word in your hearts and before your eyes.   (18 and 20).

3.         Teach God’s Word in your house, your life-style, and to your children. (19).

4.         These commandments are to be taught “diligently.”   (22).

C.         God rewards diligence to Him.   (23-25)

IV.              A Blessing and a Curse is set before the people.   (26)

A.         The blessings come if you obey God.   (27)

B.         The curse comes if you disobey God.   (28)

C.         The choice will still need to be made in the Promised Land.   (29)

Conclusion -  The land belongs to them; they will possess it, but what they do when they get there depends on their love for God.   (30-33).
