HOW TO DETECT A WICKED MAN
Introduction: There are some bad people in the world, and a godly son must avoid them when possible - and certainly not emulate them.
I. What does Solomon men by “A naughty person” and “a wicked man?”
A. A naughty person is a person who misbehaves. (12)
- This person has bad manners and compromises ethics.
B. A wicked man is a man who is Biblically immoral and sinful. (12)
- This man loves wrong and hates right, (as the Bible defines it.)
C. Solomon is actually referring to the same person with these two terms. (12)
- Wicked people are unethical and immoral.
II. What are the characteristics of a wicked man?
A. He walks with a “froward mouth.” (12)
1. He is always dogmatic about his behavior.
2. He boldly discusses his life-style as normal and justifiable.
B. “He winketh with his eyes.....” (13)
- While he promotes ungodliness with his lips, he uses his eyes to make non-verbal points.
C. “he speaketh with his feet” (13)
1. While talking, he freely moves about to make his point.
2. He’ll walk up to you and confront you with his words, while winking with his eyes.
D. “he teacheth with his fingers.” (13)
1. He is a teacher of ungodliness.
2. He emphasizes his point by using his finger, and body language.
E. “Frowardness is in his heart.....” (14)
1. This man is bad, not to the bone, but to the heart.
2. His heart is stubbornly wicked.
F. “he deviseth mischief continually.....” (14)
1. A wicked man is intelligent in his wickedness.
2. He constantly plans and plots his wicked activities.
3. “Mischief” refers to behavior that hurts other people.
G. “he soweth discord.” (14)
1. The wicked man lives for division.
2. He uses his arguments to divides institutions.
3. In his desire to have his own way, he is willing to destroy everything around him.
III. What is the end result of the wicked man? (15)
A. Sinful minds always think short-term.
- Sin is always bad long-term.
B. “his calamity” shall come suddenly. (15)
1. The word “calamity” means “disaster.”
2. The world of the wicked man will fall like a house of cards.
C. “suddenly shall he be broken without remedy.” (15)
- The end of the wicked man will be disastrous and permanent.
Conclusion: Nothing is more foolish to a long-term thinking Godly man than the short-term thinking of a wicked man.
