THE RESULTS OF LOOSE LIVING
Introduction: Solomon makes an appeal to all of his children, in verse 7, to live for Godly Wisdom.
I. Depart not from the words of my mouth..... (7-8)
A. Solomon is warning all of his children about the strange woman. (7)
1. Godly sons should not associate with strange (morally loose) women.
2. Godly daughters should not associate with strange women.
B. “Remove thy way far from her door.....” (8)
1. Godly children should stay as far away from morally loose women as possible.
2. This contradicts the modern trend of sending Christian children into the atmospheres of morally loose life-styles.
C. “come not nigh the door of her house......” (8)
1. Godly children should be diligent concerning the temptation to come near morally loose women.
2. Solomon is warning his children to stay away - AND -to not be lured near a morally loose woman.
D. Solomon understands that both sons and daughters are led away by loose women:
1. Sons may be attracted enough to be WITH them.
2. Daughters may be attracted enough to be LIKE them.
II. What happens when godly children associate with morally loose women. (9-12)
A. Your honor will be given away. (9)
1. Honor refers to character, and a good reputation.
2. You can’t buy a good reputation, but you can give it away.
B. The remainder of your life will always be marked by the stain.
1. “Thy years” will be spotted and will seem “cruel.”
2. Loose living always darkens your life, and will cast a shadow on your future years.
C. Your work and money will be wasted on others. (10)
1. There are various ways your money will disappear.
2. Looking back on loose living is when the feeling of being robbed will hit you.
D. Your health will be effected for the worse. (11)
- Loose living leads to various diseases.
E. You will look back on your life with regret. (12)
- You’ll regret not allowing godly instruction to sink into your heart.
III. Godly teachers are mandatory for childhood instruction. (13)
A. Parents are responsible to be teachers of godly instruction.
B. School teachers are responsible to be teachers of godly instruction.
1. It’s a parent’s responsibility to make sure that the teachers are teaching instruction.
2. It’s also a parent’s responsibility to make sure that the teachers are living according to godly instruction themselves.
C. Godly children should be able to look back on, and see, godly parents and teachers in their past.
- This was the case with Solomon’s illustration in verse 13.
Conclusion: The best way to prepare our children to beware of morally loose life-styles is to continually teach and instruct them throughout their young lives in the home.
