DEUTERONOMY 8:1-10
I. There are four primary reactions that we are to have towards the Word of God:
A. PRACTICALLY, we are to keep God’s commandments. (verse 1)
1. They are the ways of life.
2. They will multiply God’s blessings already received.
3. They will lead you to what God wants for you.
B. MENTALLY, we are to remember God’s commandments. (verse 2)
1. We are to remember the wilderness wanderings.
2. We are to remember God’s reasoning behind past events.
C. SPIRITUALLY, we are to be humbled by our need for God. (verse 3)
1. When we were hungry, it was God who fed us.
2. When we were full, it did not satisfy.
- it’s not just bread but the Bread of Life that we need. (John 6:33-35)
D. PHYSICALLY, we are to acknowledge that God has supplied our needs. (verse 4)
1. Clothing and shoes were supplied by God.
2. For the past 40 years, while wandering from God, God was still supplying the needs.
II. Things to consider in your heart: (verse 5)
A. As a loving Father, God chastens His children. (Revelation 3:19)
1. The words of Revelation were written to the churches.
2. We should think about these things, (requiring a time out to do so).
B. We should keep God’s commands and walk in them. (verse 6)
1. Think about them in relation to God’s chastening.
2. Think about them practically – they work.
C. We should look around and realize what we have been given by God (verses 7-9).
- When is the last time that you did this – Time out?
- Fast-paced basketball games sometimes require time outs in order to look at the goals and the scoreboard.
III. After receiving God’s blessings, we are to bless God. (10)
A. We have been given good things from God.
B. We need to emphasize the word “given.”
Conclusion - Think about these things in the up-coming week!
