DEUTERONOMY 7:12-26
I. God has deep feelings for His people.
A. A series of sovereign actions are listed to show that God loves and cares for His people:
1. God keeps His promises made to past generations in relation to the present. (12)
2. God loves His people. (13)
3. God blesses you. (13)
4. God multiplies you.
5. God blesses your descendants.
B. The godly life is the best life, and the most peaceful.
1. Generally, the godly life is better for your health. (15)
2. The godly life is not a fearful life. (18 and 21)
3. Enemies cannot permanently put down a godly life. (23-24)
II. A warning is given concerning the snare of ungodly possessions. (25-26)
A. Godly people care HOW their money is made. (25)
1. We are not to take money from ungodly sources.
- this leads to a snare.
2. A man who is snared is unable to move.
3. Money is not neutral – it takes upon itself the nature of it’s environment. (25)
B. We are not to bring money gained in wicked ways into our homes. (26)
1. Your family becomes like your wealth. (26)
2. Sin is to be hated: (notice these words – “DETEST, ABHOR, CURSED)
C. The deep love that God has for His people is shown in the strong warnings He gives concerning bad influences and ungodly gain.
Conclusion - Worldliness is the most deceptive enemy of our devotion to God.
