PROVERBS 3:24-26

THE INVINCIBLE, GODLY MAN

 

 

 

Introduction:     The Christian life should be marked by holy boldness - an ability to overcome fear with a love for Truth and Wisdom from God.

 

 

I.     “When thou liest down, thou shalt not be afraid....”   (24)

 

     A.     Fear causes insomnia (an inability to sleep soundly).

 

          1.     The number one cause of insomnia is stress.

              

               -     fear of the future ( job, family, decisions, etc.)

              

          2.     Fear makes cowards of us all.

 

     B.     Overcoming your fears produces sleep that is sweet.

 

               -     “thou shalt lie down, and thy sleep shall be sweet.”   (24)

 

II.     “Be not afraid of sudden fear.....”   (25)

 

     A.     Many fearful things occur in our lives unexpected.

 

          -     You cannot fully prepare for unexpected tragedies.

 

     B.     You cannot live successfully in the present by fearing what may, or may not, happen tomorrow.

 

          -     Christians are to boldly face life.   (Proverbs 28:1)

 

     C.     “neither of the desolation of the wicked, when it cometh.”   (25)

 

          1.     What happens to the wicked world should not cause God’s children to be afraid.

 

          2.     Godly people trust God in the face of ungodly situations.   (Psalm 62:8)

 

III.     “For the Lord shall be thy confidence.”    (26)

 

     A.     Confidence in God produces a life that is lived confidently.

 

          1.     We are not to have confidence in the flesh.   (Philippians 3:3-4)

 

          2.     We are to hold fast our confidence.   (Hebrews 3:14)

 

     B.     A clean heart towards God produces confidence.

 

          -     I John 3:21

     C.     Solomon wants his son to be confident in God when facing danger.

 

          1.     Do you turn to God during fearful times?

 

          2.     Do you have confidence in God during fearful times?

 

     D.     We must prepare for the unexpected by living day by day with a strong confidence in God.

 

IV.     “and shall keep thy foot from being taken.”   (26)

 

     A.     God will not abandon his children.

 

          1.     Solomon was confident that God would not abandon his son.

 

          2.     The example of Solomon is the example for all of us to follow.

 

     B.     Without Jesus Christ, you cannot know genuine peace.

 

          1.      Jesus takes away fear of storms.   (Mark 6:47-51)

 

          2.     Jesus takes away fear of the future.   (John 14:1-3)

 

          3.     Jesus takes away fear of death.   (Matthew 28:2-10)

 

 

 

 

Conclusion:     Godly people are not reckless people, but when the situation call for boldness then we are to be bold in our actions.
