DEUTERONOMY 5:22-33

FROM THE HEART OF GOD

 I.     There is a sense of fear in hearing the Word of God.     (5:23-27) 

A.         The people received the Word of God in unusual ways. 

          1.     All of the assembly heard the Word of God.     (22)

2.         It was accompanied by a mixture of fire, clouds, darkness and a great voice.

3.         The entire mountain burned with fire.     (23)

 

     B.     The leaders of each tribe came near to the mountain.     (23) 

          1.     They saw God’s glory and greatness.     (24)

2.         They heard God’s voice in the fire.

3.         They had a fear of God’s Word.     (25-26)

4.         This fear led to obedience.     (27)

 

II.                God reveals His heart’s desire for His children in verses 28-29. 

     A.     First, God hears the cries of His people.     (28) 

1.         The fact that he hears means that he desires to hear.

2.         That God hears the frail cries of His people says something about His heart.

 

     B.     God has five desires for you:     (29) 

1.         That you have a heart that fears Him.

2.         That you have a heart to keep God’s commandments.

3.         That you fear and obey God ALWAYS.

4.         That it may be well with you.

5.         That it may be well with your children.

 

III.     Teach the younger generation to not turn from the ways of God.     (30-33) 

     A.     Moses is told to repeat, again, the words of God.     (30)

               -make double sure they understand what God expects in the new land. 

B.         Make sure they understand that God’s Word is not to be compromised.    (31) 

     C.     God’s ways are the most prosperous and productive ways a man can follow.    (33)
