DEUTERONOMY 4:11-24
I. The ten commandments are the basis of godly behavior. (13-14)
A. The commandments came after the covenant. (13)
1. God gave to Abraham the covenant concerning the new land.
2. The covenant applies to the children and descendants of Abraham.
3. The older generation broke it.
4. The younger generation is commanded to keep it.
B. The ten commandments is a part of the covenant – added later. (13-14)
1. The commandments are to be kept in the new land.
2. Moses must teach them to the younger generation.
3. The are bound by the covenant and the commandments in the new land.
II. The younger generation is to be on the look-out for self-corruption. (15-19)
A. Take good heed unto yourselves. (15)
1. You have not seen God but you have heard Him.
2. Beware of allowing the invisibility of God to lower your guard against the world. (16-19)
B. Moses is warning the tounger generation to NOT put faith in the material works of their hands, but in the spiritual presence of God.
C. All that is visible was created by the invisible God.
III. The younger generation belongs to God. (20-21)
A. “The Lord hath taken you.” (20)
C. Moses reminds the younger generation that he will not be going with them.
IV. God is jealous when it comes to worship. (23-24)
A. When you worship something or someone, you are displaying the love of your heart and the concentration of your mind.
1. Moses reminds the people not to forget the covenant with God. (23)
2. The Ten Commandments specifically forbid the worship of anything or anyone other than God.
B. God has a righteous jealousy concerning His children. (A consuming fire)
